The Sports Aviation Foundation (SAF) is a Nevada 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located at the Minden-Tahoe Airport. Its goals are to: provide educational opportunities for the area’s youth, act as a focal point for sports aviation pilots, preserve aviation heritage in a complex built on airport grounds, enhance safety in all aviation activities, and foster national and international aviation competitions and sports activities.
SAF receives Community Grant for Airport East Side
The Sports Aviation Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization
at the Minden-Tahoe Airport, received a Community Grant from Douglas County for early development on the East side of the airport.
The Grant will be used to start the design process of a Community Pavilion to be used for local community outdoor meetings and Airport Events.
The SAF Pavilion is envisioned as an outdoor gathering place for any sanctioned community groups such as soaring competitions, aviation clubs, service clubs, and churches, local and otherwise. Other related aviation groups such as the American Bonanza Society, the Swift Club and Mooney Club and others may come to experience the beautiful Carson Valley.
The Pavilion will be part of the designated “Aviation Center” on the East side of the Minden-Tahoe Airport. The amount awarded is for the design of a 2000sq ft pavilion, and one windward wall or windbreak. SAF will match the funds awarded and continue fundraising for the proposed “Aviation Center.”
This Project will be the “kick off” for the development of the East side of the Airport. An Administration Building and Sports Aviation Center are also expected to be built as development ramps up.
The Aviation Center is expected to include classrooms, meeting rooms, and a heritage center with a general aviation gathering and display area when it is fully built. The SAF Pavilion will provide a public facility for all organizations, group meetings and events. It will highlight the “Community that enhances the Scenery,” for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.
